Which Teeth Whitening System Is Right For You?

Modern dentistry has improved and changed a great amount in the last ten to twenty years, and this has led to new treatments being available to everyone, rather than just the few rich people who could afford it. People are visiting dentists for 'cosmetic' dental treatment in the same way that they would visit a cosmetic surgeon to have their body altered or enhanced.

With more and more celebrities having cosmetic dental treatments and exhibiting perfect teeth in magazines and on television, tooth whitening is one of the dental treatments that have soared in popularity for people young and old. Other treatments include implants, veneers, and alteration of the gum line. This article looks at the different types of teeth whitening systems and will help you assess which is best for you.

There are various teeth whitening systems available, and they range from the very expensive to the relatively cheap and accessible. All teeth whitening systems fall into two main categories – those that must be carried out by a professional such as a dentist, and those that can be done at home. Home treatments are often cheaper, but can be less effective and can even cause lasting damage if applied incorrectly.

The key to selecting which tooth whitening system is appropriate for you is to ask yourself the following questions:

Am I good at following written instructions?
What is my budget for this treatment?
Am I looking for immediate results or a course of treatment?
Am I comfortable visiting a dentist?
Do I have minor or extensive tooth staining?

Home tooth whitening systems are cheaper, but they normally use a peroxide bleach based formula and so the instructions that come with them must be followed to the letter. Otherwise, the results may not be what you expected, and the sensitivity of the teeth can be increased.

However, if you are confident about applying the treatment yourself and are prepared to finish the whole treatment without expecting instant results, home teeth whitening systems can be a cost effective way to achieve that celebrity look.

Salon or dentist based teeth whitening systems are more expensive, but can have longer lasting and more immediate effects. Dentists use similar peroxide based formulas to the home systems, but the effect is enhanced by the use of a laser. Laser whitening can make your teeth 5-6 shades lighter on the first visit by activating crystals inside a gel, but if you have extreme discoloration you may need to go back more than once.

The risks of laser teeth whitening are not great, with the most common side effect reported being increased sensitivity to hot and cold. Rubber dams are used to protect the gums when bleach based formulas are being used, and this ensures the gums are protected from the effects of the tooth whitening system.

Modern lifestyles can have a bad effect on our teeth, with drinks like coffee, tea and red wine causing staining and discoloration. Teeth whitening systems are a way to instantly reverse the effects of our lifestyle, but are no substitute for regular brushing and flossing.

Laser Teeth Whitening

There's something about a big smile. Especially a big smile that shows beautiful white teeth. A bright white smile says "healthy", and admit it, people with beautiful white teeth somehow even look happier. A whiter smile can make a person more confident and outgoing in social situations. Unfortunately most of us don't have the whitest smile that we could. Years of drinking dark colored beverages such as coffee, tea, soda, and red wine, smoking, and aging take their toll on the color of tooth enamel. The great news is that today anyone can have a dazzling white smile.

Teeth whitening has become the most common form of cosmetic dentistry performed. It's a very simple and fairly inexpensive way to greatly improve your smile. There are several ways to whiten your teeth depending on the amount of money you want to spend, and your level of patience. You can choose from tooth whitening gels and whitening toothpaste, bleaching strips, bleaching gel with a fitted mouth tray, or laser teeth whitening. Laser teeth whitening is sometimes called in-office bleaching. Of all these different types of alternatives laser teeth whitening is the fastest way to a white smile, it's also the most expensive. A one hour teeth whitening session generally runs around $600.00.

Laser teeth whitening is considered the top of the line treatment. It takes about one hour. The dentist applies a bleach solvent containing hydrogen peroxide to the teeth. You will find that hydrogen peroxide is found in all teeth whitening products. The higher the amount of hydrogen peroxide the faster the tooth whitening will take place. Once the bleach is on the teeth the teeth are subjected to a light source, usually a laser. This laser activates the hydrogen peroxide. This application is left on your teeth for twenty minutes. This process is then repeated two more times before you are done.

Of course, the results you receive from any tooth whitening system will fade over time. Trying to avoid dark colored drinks and not smoking will help you enjoy the results longer.

Do Not Tip Toe Around This Home Improvement Tip

A good home improvement tip to give you is one you probably may not think of. Frequently, people are losing their investments due to fires. There are things you can do to protect your investment from burning to the ground, as this can be very disheartening.

Hot and dry weather can cause a dramatic change in fire dangers. Weeds and vegetation when lacking water, can turn into fuel for fires. One lightening bolt or carelessly tossed cigarette, or ember from a fire is all it takes to set a fire and destroy your whole neighborhood. Some houses are spared when they catch on fire, while others are totally burn to the ground. Did you ever wonder why is that so? It is because some homeowners may have taken additional steps to prevent total loss from fire disaster. This is a some good home improvement tip you should take note of.

What You Can Do To Prevent or Save Your Home from a Fire Disaster

A good home improvement tip that is good for you is to remove anything natural that could lead to a fire breakout. Look around your home for any sources of fuel and try to get rid of them before disaster strikes. Trees and plants that tend to have a lot of dry leaves are very prone to starting dangerous fires. Keep your trees well pruned all the time and avoid planting them in clusters. Also try to remove any flammable vegetation that is within thirty feet of your house. If you want to be safe and smart, thin out the dry stuff to within one hundred feet of your structures.

You can also prune the branches of the trees if they are lower than six feet height. This will help to reduce a lot of chance of fire, and is a great home improvement tip to remember.

Another useful home improvement tip to note is not to stack wood next to your house. The wood should be at least thirty feet from the structure of the building. Try to avoid placing lumber piles and other construction materials near your place, and keep an eye on any butane or propane tanks. Keep these at least ten feet away from your home or dry material.

Another home improvement tip for you is to prepare your house for a fire. When you get materials for your roof or siding, try to get items that are fire-resistant. Purchase items like asphalt-fiberglass or masonry roofing and if you live in a fire prone area, this is a very important home improvement tip that you shoudl try to follow.

Make sure you have prepared your family for strategies to follow in the event of a fire disaster. If you follow these helpful home improvement tips, you will stand less of a chance of losing totally your future investment when a fire disaster strikes.

bout a decade ago, people knew only one way of getting their teeth whitened- that was through dental in-office whitening. It was a wearisome procedure but slowly when people started showing a compulsive concern of having a whiter set of teeth, the impulsion goaded a number of different bleaching formulas and teeth whitening kits started flooding the every day market.

Nowadays, dental in-office teeth whitening aren’t the only option. Numerous home teeth whitening kits are now dominating the market with unprecedented rate, as they are more beneficial products of teeth whitening treatments. Home teeth whitening system uses different teeth whitening kits like whitening strips, teeth whitening trays with whitening gels, and brush-on whitening.

Some of the basic home teeth whitening tip or methods of teeth whitening, used by people around the world are as follows:

1. Application of a paste of lemon juice and salt in the yellowish tint of the teeth is a wonderful way of eradicating that dull color of the teeth.

2. Rubbing the inner white part of an orange peel in the discolored teeth gives a lovely white shine.

3. Regular use of paste of bi-carbonate of soda with water removes the surface stain from the teeth.

4. Dried and powdered Bay leaves combined with dried orange peel also acts as an excellent whitener.

All these home teeth whitening methods when done regularly can give an excellent result.

Nowadays, people lack patience and time and so they frequent the chemist’s shop to purchase teeth whitening kits. These kits include whitening strips, whitening sprays, brush-on gels and whitening toothpastes. But before using such teeth whitening kits, one should follow certain guidelines to get a perfecta teeth whitening. He should use oxygenating toothpaste to brush the teeth because it contains substances that strengthen gums and prevent sensitivity from occurring in the teeth. Before purchasing teeth whitening kits containing bleaching gel, one should confirm that the formula has 21 percent concentration and is carbamide peroxide based. After using Home teeth whitening kits, one should rinse their mouth with an oxygenating oral wash to get that perfecta teeth whitening.

Teeth Whitening: Your Options

If you're thinking of brightening up your smile, the first person you should talk to is your dentist. Your dentist is the most qualified person to be able to tell you if teeth whitening will actually make a difference for you. In other words, not all people benefit equally because not all discoloration is equal.

For example, if your teeth have a yellowish cast, bleaching them will give you a pretty dramatic improvement in your smile. If your teeth have an overall darker color, say brown, your results may not be as good. If your smile has a gray tint to it, then bleaching may not work at all. Do any of your teeth have caps or dental bonds? Bleaching isn't going to do much for those teeth. Worse yet, you may only draw attention to those specific ones in contrast to others that bleach well. Instead of bleaching you might want to ask your dentist about porcelain veneers.

The next question you want to consider is whether to have your teeth whitened in your dentist's office or at home. If you have the time, "chair-side bleaching" may be for you. Figure on spending 30-60 minutes on each visit. You may also have to make multiple visits. Each time, your dentist will apply some sort of protection to your gums (either a gel or a rubber shield). Then your dentist will put a bleaching solution on your teeth. Sometimes your dentist will shine a special light on the bleach solution to make it work better. This sort of technique is accepted by the American Dental Association for it qualities of safety and utility.

If you cannot (or rather would not) make multiple visits to your dentist's office, you have some options for whitening your teeth at home. Some are over the counter remedies, and others are purchased through your dentist.

These solutions usually contain a bleaching solution called carbamide peroxide. The solution comes in varying concentrations (between 10% - 22%) and literally bleaches your tooth enamel. You will apply this solution in gel form to your teeth by putting the gel in a mouth guard and then wearing it. Depending on the system you purchase, you might wear the mouth guard at night for a couple of weeks. Other systems allow you to wear the mouth guard a couple of times a day for the same length of time. The benefit of purchasing this kind of system from your dentist is that your mouth guard can be custom-fitted. Be aware that the lower concentration of carbamide peroxide (10%) is the only one that is approved by the American Dental Association.

Talk to your dentist about any potential discomfort you may experience while whitening your teeth. Yours might become sensitive to heat and/or cold for some limited period of time. Also, you might experience some irritation of the tissues in your mouth, e.g., your gums and/or mouth. This is usually due to a mouth guard that doesn't fit well or perhaps the bleaching gel came in contact with your mouth.

Lastly, you might want to consider whitening toothpastes. These contain a relatively mild abrasive rather than bleach.

Conclusion:

If you want to brighten your smile, make sure you consider all your options by talking to your dentist first

Teeth Whitening - A Personal Experience

Teeth whitening is so common these days you feel left out when you look in the mirror and see yellow stains reflecting back. So with all the teeth whitening systems on the market, how does a person find one that works best for them?

When I got my braces off, yes I was an adult with brace face, I was really shocked at how yellow my teeth were. The most embarrassing part was everyone wanted to see my new straight teeth that were also quite yellow!

I really wanted to find a whitening system that was reasonable after all I just finished paying $4000 on braces. I looked on eBay with their auctions that sell the “professional” systems with custom molding trays you can mold yourself using hot water. They hardly shaped to my teeth, the tray just stayed in its boxing tooth guard shape. Plus the syringes of peroxide were goopy and difficult to measure the right amount into each tray. The directions said I only needed a half ml per treatment but usually 4 times that much squirted out. Another thing about the gel was that it got on my gums and really irritated them. That kit from eBay got tossed to the back of my toiletry drawer and my yellow teeth remained.

Then I looked into the custom whitening trays from my orthodontist, they were $350 for the trays and peroxide! This was alot more than I wanted to pay or could afford. I went to another orthodontist to see about another cosmetic tooth procedure. The procedure was expensive too, but he did say to whiten my teeth to the shade I wanted before getting them fixed because the dentist would match the color of the cement or ceramic with my natural tooth color. Dental epoxy won’t lighten with any type of whitening system.

I asked the orthodontist what he recommended to whiten my teeth. I was surprised to hear him say that the over the counter whitening systems was the same stuff the dentists normally use. He said Crest White Strips work fine and I could get the desired results with a package of Crest. I talked to my mother-in-law and she said she didn’t like the Crest White Strips because they were all goopy and gross. I personally never have tried them.

The whitening system that I have tried and got results I was very happy with was the Oral-B Whitening Strips from Rembrandt. It’s a seven day system; you wear a comfortable strip on the upper and lower teeth for 30 minutes a day. There are no gels or mess and they can be easily trimmed to fit over your teeth so your gums are not irritated. One thing I did was fall asleep with them on one night, so they were on my teeth for 6 hours! My teeth were so sensitive the next day they just ached and ached. But when I followed the instructions I got great results and never had any other teeth sensitivity problems. Currently I am enjoying a white bright smile with fabulously straight teeth.

Value Your Teeth and Gums With an Orthodontist

Gingivitis is something we commonly hear especially when you talk about teeth concerns. Gingivitis is caused by the buildup around the teeth and gums of plaque, a gunky, bacteria-filled concoction of food and saliva. That is why it is important to consider the facts of brushing your teeth. You also have to floss and make sure that not objects build up in between your teeth.

Normally when you eat beef, chicken or any meat for that matter, some of the chewed particles may get caught in your teeth. You can try to brush them out but if you fail, they will surely build up bacteria and this where the problem will start. Floss regularly as well.

Toothbrushes are normal to dilapidate over time and normally we should know when to change them. They are not that expensive and their bristles are something we should look out for. They are not easy to identify but once you see that they barely brush anything due to their softness or jagged directions, you better buy a new one.

Care for your teeth daily is important. You really don’t have to look far to be able to do so. You just have to know when to change your oral tools when needed. They can really make a difference and are really for your own oral care.

If you think that a denture can solve your chewing problem, that is right. But you also have to consider the fact of your gums which may take in too much load. Apparently this stems from the fact that we were supposed to chew food on our own without any aid. But not thanks to some carelessness, we have to improvise to make sure our teeth doesn’t take the brunt of the pain.

Dentures have been designed to help us. However, while chewing problems have been addressed, gum load is another. Make sure your dentures help your teeth out but also your gums.

Once you notice that each time you brush your teeth that blood suddenly comes after you gargle, then perhaps your teeth or gums are bleeding. Now don’t be alarmed. Perhaps you have overlooked taking are of your gums.

Our mouth is exposed to a lot of varying factors. Among them include the problem of smoking, improper brushing and the food we eat. Munching all day can take its toll on us. Normally we have to support our mouth with various recourses and in this case, if we don’t, then we will have problems. Bleeding gums are serious. They have to be treated once they start.

When you get a toothache, chances are you will think of your brushing your teeth regularly from thereon. Apparently, pain in your mouth may not be the tooth itself. Perhaps it has gotten worst thanks to your continued disregard for having it looked by a dentist or ortho. While that is all water under the bridge, it is never too late to have it looked at. You may still save yourself a lot of pain and trouble.

For people who brush their teeth, there is still no guarantee that they will get the right care for their teeth and gums. The right way is to address each pain as similar as possible. That way you can avoid the complications.

How Can You Tell If Your Wisdom Teeth Are Coming In

If you have some unexplained pressure in the back of your mouth you may have found yourself asking how can I tell if my wisdom teeth are coming in? If you are in between the ages of 16 and 30 this is a viable question. Everyone has heard stories about the pain associated with wisdom teeth, so the subject may make you a little nervous. The answer is to seek dental care.

Wisdom Teeth are the third molars and they normally appear after adolescence. Most people have 4 wisdom teeth, but some have less and some have none at all. The number of wisdom teeth you have is based on genetics, so you may want to ask your parents how many they have and what were their symptoms. There are even rare cases of having more than 4 wisdom teeth.

If you search online under "how can I tell if my wisdom teeth are coming in" you will find thousands of pages with even more symptoms. Your best bet is to call up your dentist and ask what symptoms you should be looking for. If you are feeling any type of pressure or pain in the back of your mouth and jaw, you should make this call. Also, if your teeth seem to be inexplicably moving, you should make that call.

To determine if you are getting your wisdom teeth, your dentist will do an oral exam and probably x-rays. Depending on what he sees, a course of action will be established. Normally, if the wisdom teeth are not affecting other teeth, they will be left in. Often, though, wisdom teeth come in at an angle causing other teeth to move. When this happens, they must be extracted.

When there is a wisdom tooth infection the tooth must also be extracted. A wisdom tooth causes infection when it is partially impacted. Impacted teeth are teeth that do not break the surface. If a wisdom tooth only partially breaks the skin, the remaining skin flap can collect bacteria. The resulting infection can be quite serious if left untreated. While there are alternative treatments that involve removing the skin, tooth extraction is most commonly preferred.

Seeking the care of a dental professional is the only recommended course of action regarding wisdom teeth. They can advise you on your treatment alternatives. If they cannot remove the teeth themselves, they can direct you to an oral surgeon they trust. While you may have a little post-op pain, it will be worth it when the rest of your teeth stay straight and you are free of wisdom tooth pressure.

The more you know about wisdom teeth, the better off you will be. Its important to remember that as an adult, you only have 1 set of teeth, so you’ll want to take care of them. Wisdom teeth can be helpful, but they can also be the cause of future problems for your teeth. So do the right thing: take care of them and if you need them extracted, do so.

Take Care Of Your Teeth

By now we are all aware of the importance of keeping ourselves in good health. Anyone who has a television or access to the internet knows that our health is one of the most valuable things we have. We frequently hear about the importance of watching our weight, watching our caloric intact and of staying away from too much fat, but how often do we hear a warning about the importance of taking care of our teeth?

Maybe I come by caring about teeth honestly since I am the daughter of a dentist and now the wife of a dentist. Regardless, I am concerned about the lack of concern I see all around me about teeth. I see far too many people sucking down sugar-filled drinks all day long without taking the time to brush their teeth or think about what they are doing for the health of their teeth.

One of the most basic ways you can take a step towards taking better care of your teeth is to get a dental check up with a dentist. I know, many people hate going to the dentist for fear of what will happen there, but I guarentee that you will be glad to get a check up and a cleaning once you have done it. Look for a good dentist in your area in the newspaper, phonebook, through an online search, or by talking with friends. Just find yourself a dentist and make a visit. It is the best way to begin a lifetime of caring for your teeth.

A second step to taking care of your teeth is to brush them regularly. It sounds simple and obvious, I know, but you might be shocked to realize how few people actually brush their teeth regularly. I know too many people (children, teens and adults included) that brush once a day or less! Sound disgusting? It is! You should be brushing your teeth a minimum of twice a day. Begin making good teeth habits now by making yourself brush when you get up in the morning and before you go to bed at night.

Flossing is a third important element to good teeth care. I didn't start flossing regularly until I was an adult, but since I started I just cannot stop. Flossing is a small thing that makes a huge difference. Caring for your teeth in such a detailed way is a reflection about the level of care you have for your body and your health.
